National Weather Service description (English): A severe thunderstorm dropped two inch diameter hail on Kennedy Space Center. The hail severely damaged the foam on the external fuel tank of the Space Shuttle Atlantis. Due to the hail damage the shuttle was rolled back to the Assembly Building and the March 15th scheduled launch was postponed. There were estimates that 100 vehicles were damaged and a window was broken out of a guard shack. |

National Weather Service description (English): A trained weather spotter measured hail up to two inches in diameter in Indialantic. Hail lasted about 10 minutes and covered the ground. Numerous other reports from this vicinity reported golf ball to hen egg sized hail with damage to vehicles, house roofs, windows and pool screen enclosures.
