National Weather Service description (English): A hailswath consisting of large to occasionally giant hail accompanied a slow-moving supercell from near New Deal southward to east Lubbock and to Highway 84 near Loop 289. Initially, baseball size hail was observed on FM Road 1294 one mile east of Interstate 27 near New Deal. The largest hail of approximately softball size fell in northeast Lubbock along East 13th Street around 5:15 pm CST. As this supercell continued southward, the large hail diminished to golf ball and then quarter size. National Weather Service description (English): A picture posted to social media depicted hail up to the size of baseballs at 1850 CST in New Deal. At 1859 CST, three inch hail was reported seven miles east of New Deal by a trained spotter. This hail was from one of several severe thunderstorms that developed off of the outflow of the initial thunderstorm in southwestern Lubbock County.

National Weather Service description (English): A swath of very large hail up to baseball size fell along I-27 between 6 and 12 miles south of Hale Center. The hail caused various degrees of damage to several vehicles; particularly those that sought limited shelter availability at a rest stop about 12 miles south of Hale Center. In some cases, complete windshields were cracked and rear windows shattered. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Area cotton crops primed for harvest likely suffered damage as well; however, loss estimates were not known.
